Neptune is the Roman god of freshwater, the sea, and horses, identified as the counterpart to the Greek god Poseidon. As a brother to Jupiter and Pluto, he held a central role in the Roman pantheon, often depicted with a trident and riding a chariot. Originally a freshwater deity, he became a major maritime god, honored during the Neptunalia festival in July.
