Polychrome and Giltwood Sculpture of a Crowned Eagle.
Northern Europe, late 17th – early 18th century.
Measures 60 x 48cm.
A powerful and expressive carved figure of a crowned eagle, its wings dramatically outstretched in a display of majesty and authority. Executed in wood and retaining traces of original polychrome and gilt decoration. A coronet rests atop the eagle’s head, while its talons grasp a pair of spheres—likely emblematic of sovereignty or celestial dominion. A superb example of late Baroque craftsmanship from Northern Europe.
