A Renaissance gold ring set with a table cut diamond.

 

Western Europe, last half of the 16th century.

 

Ring size R UK / 8.5 US.

 

The bezel measures 1.1 x 0.8cm.

 

The head of the ring is decorated with a Renaissance quatrefoil or four-petalled bezel finely decorated with blue, red and white enamel. The fine shank is carved with elegant fleur-de-lis to the shoulders.

 

A similar example can be found in the ‘The Ralph Harari Collection of Finger Rings’ by John Boardman and Diana Scarisbrick, page 170.
