A chased and engraved love token silver gilt scent bottle.
German, probably Augsburg, circa 1700.
It measures 9 x 4.2 x 2.4cm.
Weighs 72.7 grams.
The stopper is lathe turned, as is the base which has a hidden compartment for patches, the main body is chased with fruit and foliage. To one side is depicted a woman within a heart and the German words ‘So lang ich lebe’ which translates as ‘As long as I live’ and to the other side are two putti, one shooting the other with an arrow, the inscription is harder to read on this side but it appears to read something like ‘Annehmlichkeit ift dir schuntre farn’ which would translate as ‘Comfort is what you deserve’.
